As ever, Abnett keeps the reader breathlessly turning the pages right through to the end. My final thoughts on Blood Pact lead me to one conclusion – I really need to read the Gaunt’s Ghosts series.

Love it, Love it, Love it! Jul 22, S rated it really liked it Shelves: Blood Pact is the twelfth novel in the Gaunt’s Ghosts series and marks the beginning of the fourth distinct story arc in the series, “The Victory”. It can be read as a stand-alone, unlike, say, Only In Deathbut I don’t recommend it as the series does have arcs.
Once again he has perfected a page turner that is very easy to flip through while it still gives you much more than expected from a pulp military sci-fi thriller. Want to Read saving…. The Ghosts hear only fragments of the news, and ready themselves. An enemy prisoner — one of the deadly Blood Pact — wants to betray his masters, but he will only talk to Colonel-Commissar Ibram Gaunt.
Gone are the insane battle scenes and the action is a bit sparce when compared to the other books in this series. This book felt more like a “prologue” to the next book which is s Very fast read Balhaut is also the place where the dead are commemorated and its industry revolves around both this and catering to the Imperial forces stationed there.
Military sci-fi at its peerless, superior best. The prisoner insists that he wishes to help the Imperium, but this claim is met with skepticism by Gaunt. Montvelt, how he inherited his job and most of his possessions from his late uncle, and how Balhaut, the scene of one of the greatest victories and greatest tragedies of the Sabbat Worlds Crusade, has changed in the last fifteen years.

The Ghosts abnety to use all of their skill to survive not only the Arch-enemy but also to take on the Inquisition. They are after the prisoner, and their attack makes it into the fortress itself, but Gaunt is near the prisoner and gets away with him.
Etogaur Mabbon was an Archenemy commander on Gereon. Gaunt just needs to stay alive, keep his prisoner from being killed, and discover the truth that, supposedly, could help decide the fate of the Crusade.
Throughout the book, abndtt of the characters we have come to know and love make the briefest of cameos throughout the entire story. Two years have passed since the ferocious battle for Hinzerhaus Fortress on Jago. Gaunt must discover the truth and avert a deadly threat to both his own life and to the Sabbat Worlds Crusade itself. We never see him after the first chapter, but I was sucked into the book in those twelve pages.
Blood Pact is a hell of a great, fun read and the ending absolutely floored me. I didn’t think it was as strong as the recent “Only in Death” but I think that’s the difference between a book at the end of an arc this one which is setting up the next arc of books. The novel also provides greater detail of Gaunt’s past tour on Balhaut xbnett his service with the Hyrkan 8th, before the founding of the Tanith First-and-Only. For me, blood was a first among the Warhammer books I’ve read that has the focus on such a world.
At first it was reading like Traitor General, only it was the exact opposite. However, he is forced to protect the prisoner and go to ground in the city when a Blood Pact insertion team storms the facility abneth an attempt to silence the prisoner.
