The bias in this book as well his earlier one towards Dawood is visible in a very subtle manner. You’ll get introduced to many other gangsters in this book whose name you never heard of. The Book traces the evolution of Maharashtarians into underworld, and how so of them have started their own political parties now. The author very smoothly highlighted the role of Shiv Sena and BJP in the flourishing of Mumbai Mafia, but he just simply forgot to mention anything, any single incidence of Congress’s involvement in rising of the Mumbai Mafia especially the role of Sharad Pawar.
If police would have acted in some cases and not acted in others, many people wouldn’t have ended up where they were. The Mumbai Underworld, Mumbai Mafia….
This is the so called sequel to the book “Dongri to Dubai” by the author Zaidi. Arun Gavli was a mill worker, Arun Naik was a vegetable vendor and Chota Rajan used to sell black tickets outside Sahakar cinema.

Also a person who has not read the prequel will find it difficult keeping up with all the information in this book. Byculla to Bangkok is largely a story about Mumbai’s Hindu gangsters.

This brief,racy and concise book is must, if you have no idea about Mumbai mobsters. But oh well, I will take it. Would love to read a book wirtten on encounter cops of mumbai chronicling their lives but thats for another day. It chronicles the events under which the mumbai mafia rose, especially due to poor police attitude and the desparation and economic hardships faced by the mill workers due to the mill strike in mumbai.

Thanks for telling us about the problem. Hussain Zaidi was a former investigative journalist, who spent much of his career covering the mafia and crimes in Mumbai all solid reasons to read his books, specially this bhaykhxla.
Some of the pics in the book are actually useless in the bhaylhala. This book, like his previous book, is thoroughly researched and keeps you engaged. Amar is shown as quick witted and stylish don who indulged every kind of nefarious activities; drug dealing, smuggling, gun running, extortion others.

The books goes to to highlight the manner in which especially Rajan, Gawli and Amar Naik, stepped in the underworld and went on to play an important part in defining the mafia age.
